Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) has issued a clarification, stating that recent media reports misrepresented Dr Farooq Sattar’s remarks, creating a false impression that the gas-based generation plant installed on the rooftop of Gul Plaza was associated with or managed by K-Electric.
In a statement released by the party’s spokesperson, MQM-P clarified that Dr Farooq Sattar had categorically stated that the gas generator installed at Gul Plaza has no connection with K-Electric in terms of installation, operations, or administration.
According to the clarification, the generator license was issued by the Sindh Energy Department, while the responsibility for monthly inspections rests with the Electrical Inspector under the Government of Sindh. The statement further alleged that these inspections were not carried out properly in recent years, and this negligence apparently led to the unfortunate fire incident at Gul Plaza, resulting in the tragic loss of precious lives.
Dr Farooq Sattar has demanded the formation of a judicial commission to thoroughly investigate what he termed as serious negligence and to determine accountability. The MQM-P spokesperson emphasised that accurate facts must be presented to the public to avoid confusion and ensure that no misleading impressions persist regarding the incident.
