Today, Bangladesh has returned to normal business and daily life after a disturbance due to students’ agitation over quota allocation for government jobs. The government had even enforced a curfew to maintain law and order. However, the situation took a significant turn when a clear order from the Supreme Court was decreed on Sunday, providing a sense of reassurance and paving the way for restoring the Internet and other communication modes. According to Sea Consortium Bangladesh Ltd, the curfew was relaxed from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Offices in Chittagong can operate from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with further relaxation advised on TV and by police.

Today marks a significant step towards normalcy in Bangladesh. As confirmed by the leading shipping agent, it is the first day this week that banks will operate at the specified time.

Today, the garment industry in Bangladesh has taken a significant step towards recovery. Despite a 5-day hiatus, 1,000 readymade garments (RMG) factories have resumed production, demonstrating the sector’s resilience. RMG operations will be allowed to proceed as usual, with their company ID cards serving as curfew passes.

After a five-day disruption, broadband internet services have partially resumed. The authorities’ diligent efforts toward full restoration instill optimism for a return to normalcy. However, Internet access is only available to commercial (office) institutions. Internet providers to homes have yet to resume.

The container yards have been full in the absence of import deliveries from CPA over the last five days. Severe container congestion jeopardises operations at Chittagong Port. This situation will increase berthing delays from 2 days for geared vessels to 4 days for gearless vessels.
