WaterAid Pakistan celebrated the conclusion of its three-year Urban Water initiative with a closing event in Karachi. Launched in 2022 with support from the PepsiCo Foundation, the initiative aimed to improve access to clean water and hygiene in underserved urban areas, benefiting tens of thousands through water filtration systems and local Water User Committees.
Sindh’s Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, emphasized the importance of water and sanitation as basic rights and called for accountability and collaboration among stakeholders. Mian Muhammad Junaid, Country Director of WaterAid Pakistan, highlighted the successful partnerships formed during the project, which empowered communities to manage essential services sustainably.
Hatim Khan from the PepsiCo Foundation reaffirmed the commitment to safe water access as a human right, emphasizing the importance of local leadership. The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Tauseeq Haider, focusing on sustainability and scaling up effective WASH solutions. It concluded with a commitment to advance the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All.
