UAF urges enhanced efforts to ensure food security

University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan said agricultural scientists and experts must strengthen their efforts to ensure food security to meet the demands of the ever-growing population.

He was talking to officers of the Agriculture Department Punjab at the inaugural session of the four-week workshop titled Finance, Administration Management and E-governance arranged by the Professional Training and Skill Development Center UAF. It is the 22nd workshop for the agricultural department officers, mandatory for promotion. Director Professional Training Prof Dr Waqas Wakeel, Director Wheat Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Dr Javed Ahmad, Dr Nadeem and others also spoke.

Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan said that the agricultural sector faced low productivity, water scarcity, and climate change challenges such as e challenges. He added that we must adopt the modern trends sector and disseminate modern agricultural trends that will boost productivity in the farming community. He said that the uni was making all-out efforts to address the agrarian issues at the national level with tang research work, new varieties, outreach and a skilled workforce. Dr Waqas Wakeel said the Continuing Education Department was established in 1963 and elevated to PTDC in 2023. It offers 250 short courses on skills development, with a special focus on agriculture, livestock, and rural development. So far, these short courses have produced a 10,000 workforce. He said that under the training of 10,000-person cultural officers and renowned agricultural officers trained the participants. He said that the uplift of the farm sector was a prerequisite for sustainable economic development.
