Super tax to be phased out gradually, says FBR chief

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has announced that the government plans to gradually eliminate the Super Tax, following a recent reduction of two percentage points in its rate. He also announced the establishment of an FBR office at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) to facilitate industrialists and address tax-related issues.

Speaking during a visit to KATI, Langrial said the FBR would consult stakeholders to improve industrial raw material import procedures, expand the FBR help desk network and strengthen measures aimed at broadening the tax base. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to simplifying tax administration and enhancing transparency.

KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan welcomed the chairman’s monthly visits to Karachi and called for faster resolution of industrialists’ concerns, particularly delays in tax refunds and issues related to raw material imports. Business leaders, including Zubair Chhaya, Zahid Saeed, Mian Zahid Hussain, Zubair Tufail and Rashid Siddiqui, urged the appointment of an FBR focal person at KATI, the introduction of one-window operations and the expansion of the tax net by bringing untaxed sectors into the formal economy rather than increasing the burden on existing taxpayers.
