Speakers at the meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter while paying rich tribute to Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, said that he had forwarded the Sirsyed’s mission of education as he started the struggle against illiteracy just after his arrival in Pakistan and for that purpose he had built many educational institutions and spent his whole life earning on the construction of Madinat al-Hikmah, a city of education, science and culture in Karachi on the border of Sindh and Balochistan.

The meeting was held yesterday on the theme: “Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said: A man embodied with love, sympathy and sacrifices of self-interests”, chaired by Justice (Rtd) Haziqul Khairi at a local club. Mrs. Sadia Rashid, President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan was also present at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, former senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that Hakim Said had deeply loved his country — Pakistan and then to his goal of life — ‘service to humanity’, and the circle of his services was so wide and large that it had circumscribed the whole society from common man to the elite. God had given him every comforts of life, but negating his self he made service to man his only goal of life. May God give us instruction to follow his footprints, he prayed.

Zafar Iqbal, President, Defence Residents Society, Karachi said that Hakim Said was the only person in country who worked for the betterment of children. We, in a function, held on March 11, 1991 at Karachi under the chairmanship of Chief Justice (Rtd) Qadeeruddin Ahmed, gave him the title of “Quaid-i-Naunehal (children’s leader) and he accepted that eagerly.

Prof. Muhammad Rafi said that Hakim Said had all qualities of a role model e.g. patriotism, philanthropy, wisdom, commitment, continuous struggle and tireless hard working which was essential to achieve one’s goal of life. The youths should take inspiration out of the life of Hakim Said and his message be propagated through media and social media, he added.

Justice (Rtd) Zia Pervez was of the view that the education mission of Hakim Said and his struggle against ignorance should be continued as he was a torch bearer of education and dissemination of knowledge in the country.

Commodore (Rtd) Sadeed Anwar Malik said that Hakim Said had made his institutions of education and health on merit so that they were still continuing even after his death. A comprehensive biography of Hakim Said should be written and published in order to provide with the guidance and inspiration to the future generations that how a single man single handed had built so many institutions without outer help, he stressed.

Justice (Rtd) HaziqulKhairi was of the opinion that Hakim Said was committed to the 11th August speech of Quaid-i-Azam and remained stick with his commitment till life.

Prof. Dr. KhalidaGhaus said that Hakim said was a visionary and the nation needed such visionaries, whose work was felt and spoke volumes. He was a discerning who could see today and also coming tomorrow; he had a deep concern for education and wanted to make the nation developed through education. ‘Thank’s God that his mission is being carried forward effectively by his daughter, Sadia Rashid. It is of vital importance of nation’s rebuild that his deep love for the country and deep concern for education be conveyed to general public’, she added.

Dost Muhammad Faizi, a politician said that Hakim Said was a magnetic and undisputed personality of the nation like Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah as whosoever met him fell deeply in his love. It was the magic of tennis game, he played or one breakfast – one meal, he took daily or his self-control that his age had stayed at 40, he maintained.

Qudsia Akbar lamented that a man of so many qualities who had done a lot for the country and Karachi too had been murdered in this city and by those who were the citizens of this nation of which he had rendered great services as a physician and educationist. But his enemies were failed in their nefarious design as the candles he lighted were still there and his daughter Sadia Rashid was making them more shining, may Allah give her long life and these candles be illuminated forever, she wished.

Engineer Anwarul Haq Siddiqui said that when we thought about a role model naturally the picture of Hakim Said, after Quaid-i-Azam, came in our minds. He believed in adding only and never thought about divide and minus, because he wanted to bring and accumulate the nation on one centre and that’s shura Hamdard in which he collected the best brains of the nation. If we would like to make nation a united entity with positive thinking and mindset we should have to use Hakim Said as a tool as a role model, he asserted.

Prof. Dr. Akhlaque Ahmed, Anwar Aziz Jakarawalla, IbnHasanRizvi, Brig (Rtd) RiazulHaq, Dr. Abubakr Sheikh and Usman Damobi also spoke.
