The Pakistan Federal Government has appointed Shamsher Ali, a Dubai-based business tycoon, as a Board of Governors (BoG) member at the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation. The Foundation operates under the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The official announcement was made through Cabinet Decision Number 343/Rule-19/2024/608, dated July 25th, 2024. This decision aimed at addressing matters related to the Pakistani diaspora living abroad. Shamsher Ali will utilize his knowledge of the status of Pakistanis in the UAE and neighbouring GCC countries to aid in the formulation of policies for Non-Resident Pakistanis (NRPs).
The Cabinet meeting during which the appointment was decided was chaired by Syed Qamar Raza, the Chairman of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF). Various officials attended the meeting, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development, the Managing Director of OPF, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Law & Justice.
