An internal power struggle within the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has intensified after the Directorate General of Trade Organisations (DGTO) granted a trade organisation license, reviving expectations of voting rights within the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).
Sources indicate that one group is actively seeking to place its supporters in key positions, leveraging the advanced age of PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan. Tensions were evident during a recent press conference, where confrontations over official roles nearly escalated into a physical altercation. Chairman Khan had to intervene to maintain order.
During the conference, a junior official’s call for the removal of two members was thwarted by a DGTO letter granting the Senior Vice Chairman administrative powers.
Founded nearly 45 years ago by Abdul Sami Khan and others, the PPDA has expanded nationwide, representing petroleum dealers effectively. However, newer members are attempting to form a faction to gain control and potentially sideline senior leadership, raising concerns about the association’s unity and future if internal conflicts persist.
