The Chairman of the National Business Group Pakistan, the President of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, the President of the All Karachi Industrial Alliance, the Chairman of the FPCCI Advisory Board, and the President and former provincial minister, Mian Zahid Hussain, said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had ended Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation.
The previous government’s wrong policies and desire for cheap fame not only ruined the economy but also isolated Pakistan from the rest of the world. However, the prime minister and his team have risen to this challenge well, which is commendable.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that the current government has achieved tremendous economic, political, and diplomatic successes in less than a year, which has instilled confidence in the people.
Talking to the business community, the veteran business leader said that Pakistan is now seen as a developing country instead of a failed one, whose agriculture, industry, exports, remittances, and foreign exchange reserves are increasing.
Mian Zahid Hussain said that SIFC is doing an excellent job. This year’s cotton crop will be cultivated in February instead of March, which is likely to benefit Pakistan by five billion dollars. Along with development projects, the current government has made significant reforms and helped the country recover from its worst crisis.
Bringing the country out of default and putting it on the development path is no small achievement. However, the prime minister is still unsatisfied and is trying to change the country’s economic history with the help of Uraan Pakistan and other projects, which will give the people a sigh of relief.
He said that due to past wrong policies and unfamiliarity with diplomatic etiquette, Pakistan had not only become isolated among Islamic countries but also had problems with China, America, and the European Union. If this situation had continued for some time, the country would have gone bankrupt and been subject to civil war. However, due to the government’s tireless efforts, the situation is improving rapidly.
He noted that the people and the business community have become hopeful, a balanced Afghan policy has been adopted for the first time in the country’s history, and a conspiracy to destroy and ruin PIA has been foiled. This conspiracy caused the government billions of dollars in losses. Now, PIA flights are going to Europe, which is encouraging.
Mian Zahid Hussain further said that the interest rate is continuously decreasing, the current account deficit has been eliminated, the situation of GDP, production, exports, and remittances is gradually improving, and foreign exchange reserves are increasing.
There is strong potential for increased domestic and foreign investment in Pakistan; not only are relations with Iran improving, but a new border crossing has also been opened, which will reduce smuggling and increase legal trade, increasing government revenue and public employment.
