The Government of Pakistan and Alibaba have signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focused on artificial intelligence (AI), cloud solutions, digital skills, healthcare technology, and e-commerce, marking a significant step in Pakistan’s digital transformation.
The agreements were signed at Alibaba’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Alibaba Group Chairman Joe Tsai present. Signatories included the Ignite National Technology Fund, Sky47, and SMEDA from Pakistan, as well as Alibaba Cloud and DAMO Academy from Alibaba.
Prime Minister Sharif recognized Alibaba’s global impact in E-commerce, AI, and fintech. Joe Tsai emphasized Pakistan’s talent and digital potential, stating that AI and cloud technologies could enhance healthcare and empower businesses.
Ignite and Alibaba Cloud will develop localized AI and cloud solutions, targeting 500,000 individuals for skills training. They will also host an AI hackathon focused on agriculture and financial inclusion.
DAMO Academy and Sky47 will introduce AI-driven healthcare solutions, such as multi-disease screening technology, in major cities. DAMO Academy will also support universities in building AI capacity through online courses.
Alibaba.com and SMEDA aim to help local SMEs reach global markets by providing AI-powered trade training and establishing a “Pakistan Pavilion” to connect Pakistani sellers with international buyers.
Koko Tech plans to launch a Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) service in collaboration with Ignite, investing US$3 million to enhance digital payment services and promote financial inclusion.
