The Marine Pollution Control Department (MPCD) of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has released its latest weekly clean-up report, highlighting significant progress in maintaining a cleaner harbour environment. According to the report, MPCD teams recovered a total of 16,430 kilograms of solid waste from key harbour areas, including the Dumping and Transferring Site, East Wharf, West Wharf, and Boat Basin Jetty.
The operation involved 54 boat deployments and engaged 164 personnel, underscoring the scale of the effort. All collected waste was transferred to the Garbage Transfer Station (GTS) of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) for safe disposal.
KPT emphasized its commitment to protecting marine life, ensuring navigational safety, and promoting sustainability. The department noted that systematic daily deployment of operational boats has become a cornerstone of its pollution control strategy.
Officials reiterated that these measures are part of KPT’s broader vision of a “Safer Harbour, Cleaner Environment, Stronger Together, Sustainable Tomorrow.”
This initiative reflects growing awareness of environmental responsibility in Pakistan’s maritime sector, where port authorities are increasingly focusing on ecological preservation alongside operational efficiency.
