Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry inaugurated Phase 2 of the Keamari Boat Basin Jetty on April 29, 2025. The event began with a prayer, after which the Minister was briefed on the project’s details.
During his address, Minister Anwar praised the media for its vital role in promoting positive initiatives. He emphasised the significance of Karachi Port in serving the local community and preserving the city’s history. He mentioned that artefacts from the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) would be displayed in a museum, highlighting the institution’s contributions to economic growth. Anwar also discussed the important steps taken by KPT regarding the planting of tamarisk trees.
He stressed the need to cease palm tree harvesting, as climate change is a global challenge. The Minister announced plans to launch a tree plantation campaign using available resources. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing efforts to clean up the coastline and indicated his intention to meet with the Chief Minister of Sindh to address the issue of coastal littering.
In response to media inquiries, Anwar assured that dredging issues would be resolved and noted that the establishment of a dredging company would be considered.
He and senior KPT officials concluded the ceremony with a tour of the jetty, inspecting its facilities.
