Mayor Karachi, Barrister Syed Murtaza Wahab, has directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to provide three sites for the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to Malik Khuda Bakhsh, CEO and Chairman of Malik Group of Companies.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh met with Mayor Murtaza Wahab yesterday at his office to discuss the installation of EV charging stations at key locations across Karachi. Under his vision for clean energy, Mayor Wahab agreed in principle to allocate prominent locations for this initiative. The meeting was held under the guidance of Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and followed up on prior discussions between the parties.
Naeem Qureshi, a vehicle importer, was also present during the meeting. Mayor Wahab directed that space be allocated for three EV charging stations at the following locations: KMC Head Office, Water Board Parking on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the parking area at Dolmen Mall Clifton.
Mayor Wahab stated that just like the Sindh Government, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is also striving to improve air quality in the city and reduce pollution. “We will fully support the establishment of EV charging stations and welcome foreign investors who are interested in setting up electric vehicle manufacturing plants and charging infrastructure in Karachi,” he said.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Chairman of Malik Group, said that in collaboration with a Chinese investment group, they are bringing 30 EV charging plants to Pakistan, and installation is already underway in key cities including those in Sindh. “We aim to have the necessary infrastructure fully operational by the end of this year,” he added.
He thanked Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah for his full cooperation and also paid tribute to Mayor Murtaza Wahab for allocating three locations for EV charging stations in Karachi.
