A delegation from the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), led by President Junaid Naqi and Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, met with Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, to address key challenges faced by industrialists and explore ways to enhance cooperation for the city’s development.
KATI’s Senior Vice President, Ejaz Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President Syed Tariq Hussain, and former presidents Johar Qandhari, Sheikh Umar Rehan, and Danish Khan attended the meeting.
During the meeting, President KATI Junaid Naqi thanked Commissioner Naqvi and highlighted the importance of consistent collaboration between the government and the business community to tackle ongoing challenges and promote industrial growth. “This meeting reflects our shared commitment to improving governance and infrastructure in Karachi,” Naqi stated.
Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi assured the KATI delegation that the issues would be promptly addressed. He stressed the need for improved communication between municipal authorities and the industrial sector to ensure smooth operations.
Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya emphasized the importance of reactivating the previously established committee under the Commissioner’s office on industrial matters. He proposed reinstating a committee comprising officials nominated by the Commissioner to improve coordination and ensure timely resolution of industry-related issues.
The meeting also discussed the need to enhance the process for regularly submitting complaints to representatives from the Commissioner’s Office and District Commissioner, ensuring swift action on grievances. Additionally, the delegation raised concerns about the administrative overlap between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Town Municipal Corporations (DMCs), calling for clearer responsibilities to avoid operational conflicts.
KATI representatives underscored the importance of focusing on ongoing infrastructure projects to support industrial operations. Specific projects were discussed, such as the patchwork from Singer Chowrangi to Shah Faisal, Getz Roundabout, and SM Munir Road.
The delegation also reviewed major development projects, including a proposed interchange near the Malir Expressway for the Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry (BQATI), upgrades to the Jam Sadiq Bridge and Qayyumabad Causeway, and the World Bank-funded Yellow Line BRT project under the Karachi Mobility Plan.
Issues related to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) in the Korangi Industrial Area were also discussed. The delegation requested the immediate release of KITE funds for infrastructure improvements and addressed concerns regarding collecting and applying the infrastructure cess.
