IFC and Bank Alfalah launch Pakistan’s first diversified payment rights issuance

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Bank Alfalah Limited have signed a Project Agreement for up to US$100 million in Pakistan’s first Diversified Payment Rights (DPR) note. This initiative aims to provide long-term international financing for Pakistan’s banking sector without requiring a sovereign guarantee.

Approved by IFC on May 27, 2026, the arrangement enables Bank Alfalah to access international debt markets through foreign-currency receivables, making it the first Pakistani bank to adopt this DPR program.

“This investment will enhance Pakistan’s access to international funding,” said Momina Aijazuddin, IFC Regional Financial Sector Director. The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration among IFC, Bank Alfalah, and local authorities to promote financial innovation and strengthen Pakistan’s connection to global capital markets.
