Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs meets stakeholders to address challenges and boost regional trade

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Mr. Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, chaired a meeting with shipping lines, terminal operators, and maritime stakeholders at Karachi Port Trust to review preparedness following the Strait of Hormuz crisis and discuss measures to strengthen Karachi’s role as a regional transit and transshipment hub.

This was the first meeting of its kind, bringing together all key stakeholders in the maritime sector to discuss measures to ensure uninterrupted maritime trade, improve operational efficiency, enhance feeder connectivity, simplify business procedures, and promote Karachi as a reliable maritime gateway. Participants also discussed regulatory challenges, digitization, stakeholder coordination, and opportunities to attract regional cargo volumes.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Mr Umer Zafar Sheikh, Chairman KPT, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed SI (M) S.Bt (Retd), Chairman Pakistan Ship Agents Association, Mr Muhammad Rajpar, President All Pakistan Shipping Association, Mr Abdullah Furrukh and other representatives from shipping lines and terminal operators.
