European Union to support disability rights and gender equality in Pakistan

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to disability inclusion and women’s leadership at a national event hosted by Sightsavers Pakistan and the National Forum of Women with Disabilities (NFWWD) to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Sightsavers’ 40 years of work, and NFWWD’s 15 years of advocacy.
Key attendees included Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education, and Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chief Guest and Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, who emphasised the importance of including women with disabilities in national development efforts.
Munazza Gillani, Director of Sightsavers Pakistan, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to gender equity and empowerment of women with disabilities. NFWWD CEO Abia Akram highlighted the progress made in influencing policy and ensuring women’s voices are heard.
Sebastien Lorion, from the EU Delegation, expressed the European Union’s commitment to supporting disability rights and gender equality in Pakistan. The event concluded with commitments from various stakeholders to promote disability-inclusive development.
