Democrats’ panel’s Fazil Jameeli elected President of Karachi Press Club

The Democrats panel achieved a remarkable victory, winning for the 18th consecutive time in the Karachi Press Club elections for the year 2026. Fazil Jameeli was elected president, while Muhammad Aslam Khan was elected secretary, local media reported.

The results were announced by Election Committee Chairman Dr. Tauseef Ahmed Khan at the Karachi Press Club. Fazil Jameeli, representing the Democrats panel, garnered 536 votes to become president, while Aslam Khan received 493 votes to win the secretary position.

Irshad Khokhar won the vice president’s post with 480 votes, Imran Ayub was elected treasurer with 622 votes, and Farooq Sami secured the role of joint secretary with 556 votes.

For the seven seats on the Governing Body, the successful candidates included Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Hussain Soomro, Sheema Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Syed Fareed Alam, and Javed Mehr.

Polling began at 9:00 AM and continued without interruption until 5:30 PM. The elections featured candidates from the Democrats Panel, Democrat Panel, the Green Party, and independent candidates. Of the 1,369 registered voters in the KPC, 1,011 participated in the voting process.

Meanwhile, Tanveer, President Zubair Tufail, Chairman (Sindh Region) Khalid Tawab, Secretary General (Sindh) Hanif Gohar, Central Spokesperson Gulzar Feroz, and Core Committee members Malik Khuda Bakhsh and Tariq Haleem have termed the resounding victory of the Democratic Panel in the annual elections of the Karachi Press Club as a triumph of democracy.

The UBG leaders congratulated the newly elected office-bearers—President Fazil Jamili, Vice President Irshad Khokhar, Secretary Muhammad Aslam Khan, Joint Secretary Muhammad Farooq Sami, Treasurer Imran Ayub—and the Governing Body members Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Soomro, Sheema Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Fareed Alam, and Javed Mehr.

They stated that the Karachi Press Club is a reflection of democratic traditions where elections are held through democratic means. They expressed hope that the newly elected office-bearers, as in the past, will remain at the forefront in effectively highlighting journalists’ rights and the issues faced by the business community.

They further said that the Karachi Press Club is a strong fortress of responsible journalism and that it and its members have consistently played an exemplary role in restoring democracy in Pakistan and in conveying facts to the public. They expressed confidence that the newly elected office-bearers and members of the Governing Body will play a full and effective role in safeguarding the rights of the journalistic community.

The UBG leaders also expressed the expectation that the new leadership will highlight the difficulties faced by the business community, convey their concerns to the government, and play a positive role in protecting press freedom.
