OGDCL Chairman Zafar Masud emphasised the importance of strong governance in unlocking the true potential of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Pakistan. He spoke virtually at the ‘Directors Summit 2024,’ organised by the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) in Karachi. Masud highlighted the crucial role played by SOEs in Pakistan’s economy, operating in key sectors such as energy, transport, communication, and finance. He noted that SOEs are instrumental in generating employment, building infrastructure, and supporting long-term growth.
Masud acknowledged that many SOEs have become associated with inefficiencies, financial mismanagement, and reliance on government bailouts. He urged for governance reforms, stating that with improved governance, SOEs could significantly contribute to the national exchequer.
