WaterAid Pakistan marked the completion of WASH project

The project aimed to enhance climate-resilient and inclusive water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems, benefiting public health and community wellbeing over three years. It helped 410 villages achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, constructed 12,741 household toilets and 420 demonstration latrines, and provided safe water access to over 21,000 people via solar-powered filtration plants and handpumps.

The ceremony featured government officials, development partners, and community leaders, with Mr. Saleem Baloch, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, emphasizing the importance of hygiene for a healthier nation and the Sindh government’s focus on clean water and sanitation.

Keynote speakers included Mr. Qasim Soomro, Mr. Javaid Ali Jagirani, Ms. Nida Khuhro, and Ms. Kiran Masood. Mian Muhammad Junaid, Country Director of WaterAid Pakistan, highlighted the project’s success in community leadership and women’s participation, advocating for embedding these models in government systems for universal access to clean water and sanitation.

A panel discussion followed, stressing the need for stronger local governance, data-driven WASH planning, and gender-responsive climate adaptation. WaterAid Pakistan committed to partnering with local governments to sustain climate-resilient WASH systems and advance Sustainable Development Goal 6 for clean water and sanitation for all.
