The Thar Foundation recently marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Village Electrification Project (VEP), set to illuminate households in Thar Coal Block II through the installation of solar systems. As part of the initiative, a total of 1035 households are poised to benefit, painting a promising picture of progress and development for the region’s villages. Amir Iqbal – CEO, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company ceremony, inaugurated VEP project during ceremony held at Thar coal block 2 near Islamkot. Azhar Malik (Director site SECMC), Farhan Ansari (GM Thar Foundation), Fazal Thebo (GM EPTL), and Tarique Fareed (GM Admin HUBCO) were among other key participants in the ceremony.
In his address, Amir Iqbal expressed his enthusiasm for the solar panel project, stressing its pivotal role in providing free electricity to 1035 households, “Thar coal block two is already providing electricity to three million households in the country, and under Village Electrification Project (VEP), solar electricity will be provided to 1000+ households, whilst young local workers trained under vocational training initiative of Thar Foundation will work on this project. I am hopeful that the initiative will enhance socio-economic opportunities for the residents of Thar Block II”.
He underscored the broader impact of the Thar Coal Block II project, emphasizing the mission to provide affordable electricity to millions of households across the country. Anticipating a transformative effect on the local community, he highlighted the potential for enhanced business opportunities and improved educational access, crediting the vocational training provided by the Thar Foundation for facilitating this progress. Director Site Mohammad Azhar Malik lauded the commendable efforts of Thar Foundation, emphasizing the project’s transformative potential and its positive implications for the people of Tharparkar.
Farhan Ansari, representing the Thar Foundation, reiterated the organization’s unwavering commitment to community welfare and ongoing efforts to uplift the lives of the local populace. During the event, audience was provided a comprehensive briefing on the Village Electrification Project (VEP) and the Village Improvement Program (VIP). Notably, grant checks were distributed to 40 deserving families, including those with disabilities, widows, and individuals in need, highlighting the Foundation’s dedication to social welfare.
