Vietnamese envoy sees Karachi emerging as a regional transshipment hub

Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan, Pham Anh Tuan, highlighted Karachi’s potential to become a regional trade and logistics hub due to its strategic port during his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI). He noted that global supply chain disruptions, particularly from tensions in the Middle East, have prompted businesses to seek alternative trade routes, positioning Karachi favorably for enhanced maritime activities.

Ambassador Tuan emphasized the need for deeper economic ties, stating that trade between Vietnam and Pakistan stands at approximately $850 million, which is below potential. Discussions on a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) are underway, aiming to reduce tariffs on over 100 product lines to zero, which would benefit both nations.

KCCI President Muhammad Rehan Hanif welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and stressed the importance of strengthening relations, noting that Karachi contributes significantly to Pakistan’s revenue and exports. He highlighted potential opportunities in various sectors and urged for increased business-to-business interactions to foster trade, investment, and collaboration between the two countries.
