Talat Mahmood elected as president of KCCI

The 65th Annual General Meeting of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) announced the election of Talat Mahmood as President, Aslam Pakhali as Senior Vice President and Atif Jamil-ur-Rahman as Vice President for the 2026–28 term. Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) Zubair Motiwala congratulated the newly elected office bearers and emphasized that the strong electoral mandate must translate into tangible results for Karachi’s business community. He stressed that greater support brings greater responsibility, expectations and the need for collective, disciplined and measurable action.

Motiwala said the election outcome reflected the collective efforts of KCCI members, markets, industrial associations and the wider business community. He appreciated the outgoing President Muhammad Rehan Hanif, Senior Vice President Muhammad Raza and Vice President Arif Lakhani for their performance, and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of BMG members, former office bearers and supporters. He urged the new leadership to serve all members approaching KCCI while maintaining institutional discipline, and called for evidence-based advocacy on unresolved issues relating to FBR, gas, electricity, water and industrial infrastructure. He also supported proposals for appropriate KCCI representation at policymaking forums including the Sindh Assembly and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.

Vice Chairmen BMG Anjum Nisar, Jawed Bilwani, Mian Abrar Ahmed and Muhammad Tariq Yousuf also congratulated the new office bearers, urging them to focus on Karachi’s infrastructure, economic, civic and industrial challenges. They stressed unity, sincerity and sustained advocacy to convert long-standing demands into practical action, while highlighting the need for continuity in engagement with authorities on taxation, customs and energy-related issues.

Newly elected President Talat Mahmood pledged to prioritize Karachi’s voice during the first six months, focusing on infrastructure, law and order, traffic, gas and electricity challenges. He announced plans for a technical mechanism to monitor traffic congestion daily, and emphasized strengthening KCCI’s engagement with the FBR, including facilitation through the PRAL office in Karachi. He assured particular attention to small traders, stakeholder consultation on market timings, and efforts to reduce energy costs, lower the cost of doing business, increase exports and attract foreign investment.

Retiring President Muhammad Rehan Hanif congratulated the incoming team, thanked BMG leadership and colleagues, and paid tribute to Chairman Zubair Motiwala for his confidence and guidance. He pledged continued support to BMG and the Karachi business community, assuring his cooperation with the new office-bearers in both good and difficult times.
