SSGC: Two arrested, 3,029 illegal connections removed as crackdown against gas theft intensifies.

SSGC continued to tighten the noose on gas theft miscreants through fresh arrests and multiple targeted raids in its Sindh and Balochistan franchise provinces. The company’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO) and the Customer Relations Department (CRD) theft control unit took the lead in cracking down on the offenders.

Following raids conducted by SS&CGTO on their commercial units for direct gas theft, SSGC Police from North Karachi and North Nazimabad arrested the owners of a sweet mart shop and a spare parts service station. FIRs were lodged against the miscreants, and claims are being raised. In fresh operations, the company’s theft control teams removed around 3,029 illegal domestic connections in different cities and towns.

In Karachi, CRD’s theft control teams removed more than 2,609 illegal domestic underground and overhead connections to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Nazimabad, Lyari, Malir, Badia Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Bahadurabad and several other areas. In the pilferage cases, residents had illegally extended gas connections that were dismantled during the raids. SSGC teams also killed service lines to prevent any further unauthorized use. Theft claims are being raised to recover the losses incurred.

SSGC’s theft control teams also conducted raids on houses involved in underground and overhead theft in the Nawabshah and Larkana regions, removing 20 illegal domestic connections. The reading teams also removed theft clamps and rubber pipes used in pilferage. Consequently, theft claims are being raised accordingly.

Meanwhile, in upper and lower Balochistan, the crackdown against gas theft miscreants continued. 400 overhead and underground illegal gas connections were removed in the Quetta, Qalat, and Dera Allayar regions. More than five fake meters were also found disconnected. In addition, clamps and rubber pipes used in gas theft were removed and confiscated by the theft control teams. Theft claims are also being raised accordingly.

Gas theft is one of the major reasons behind Unaccounted-for gas (UFG) or line losses. SSGC is laser-focused on controlling the menace of gas theft through regular raids and aggressive prosecution.
