Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. has been pulling out all stops to reduce gas theft incidences. With the availability of gas decreasing every year due to a lack of new reserves and depleting current natural gas reserves, the country has seen a rise in gas theft cases, where culprits make use of rubber pipes, clamps, and other materials to access gas illegally from the Company’s mains service line.

To bring down the rising instances of gas theft, SSGC’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations (SS&CGTO) department and teams from the Customer Relations Department (CRD) have been conducting surveys and raiding gas theft-infested colonies. Over the past week, these two teams have disconnected a record-breaking 4,964 illegal gas connections, with 4,771 disconnections in Karachi, 125 in Quetta, 65 in Hyderabad, and 3 in Nawabshah. The highest number of gas theft cases disconnected in Karachi were centred around Baldia Town and Parkland Bin Qasim Town, where many residents had been involved in this heinous crime.

Gas theft is a serious crime against the community, and strict action will be taken against all those involved in such activities. Recently, SS&CGTO teams, along with SSGC Police, raided a hotel in Karachi’s F.B. Area where culprit Muhammad Fayyaz was accessing gas illegally from the main line. The culprit was arrested on spot, and FIR has also been registered against him. Meanwhile, in another raid at Ubaid Medical Center and Maternity home situated at Baldia Town, Karachi, culprit Abdul Razzaq was found using gas illegally by directly accessing it from the Company’s main line to power heavy gas generator. All equipment used for illegally obtaining gas was removed and taken in custody on spot, and appropriate claims will be raised against both culprits.

SSGC will not tolerate gas theft incidences and will continue to fight this menace known as gas theft.
