The Sui Southern Gas Company Limited has been consistently combating the menace of gas theft, with multiple raids carried out every week. The Company’s Security Services and Counter Gas Theft Operations Department, in coordination with the Customer Relationship Department and Recovery departments, has been conducting surveys to identify colonies and areas infested with gas theft. After a thorough investigation, raids are planned, and finally, action is taken against all those involved in this heinous crime.
Recently, the Company’s aforementioned teams have disconnected 1,506 illegal connections, where gas was being stolen via overhead and underground clamps used to access gas directly from the Company’s main distribution lines. In Karachi alone, a total of 1,109 illegal gas connections were removed, with raids conducted throughout the city. In a special raid at Mian Khan Goth, near Steel Town, Karachi, the team discovered a direct underground connection from SSGC’s 16-inch main Distribution line, from which gas was being supplied to approximately 280 houses via illegal connections. All equipment used for stealing gas was removed on the spot, and an FIR has been registered against Mazhar Ali Abbasi, Idrees Jokhio, Niaz Wali, and Amir Jatoi, who were identified as the culprits behind this operation. Appropriate claims will be raised against all those involved in incidents of gas theft.
Meanwhile, in the Qutta region, a total of 381 disconnections were made, followed by 16 in Hyderabad. It should be noted that gas theft is a serious crime against the community, and the team will continue to take strict action against all those involved in this crime. SSGC requests that all its customers come forward and report incidents of gas theft via their helpline at 199, through any of SSGC’s social media handles, or by reporting on SSGC’s mobile app, SSGC Customer Connect.
