SM Tanveer nominated as UBG Sindh’s FPCCI Presidential candidate

The Sindh Core Committee of the United Business Group (UBG), which currently holds power at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has unanimously nominated SM Tanveer as its candidate for the upcoming FPCCI presidential election. The decision was taken at a Karachi meeting chaired by Core Committee Chairman Khalid Tawab.

All members endorsed Tanveer’s candidature, except Ahmed Chinoy, who had also aspired to contest the presidency. The committee did not count his vote in the unanimous decision. Chinoy criticized the nomination and further provoked resentment when he remarked that the late SM Muneer and his family did not belong to Karachi. Committee members strongly rejected the claim, stressing that Muneer and his family had lived their entire lives in the city.

The Core Committee urged Tanveer to step forward to safeguard FPCCI, strengthen the institution and restore its stature. In his remarks, Tanveer highlighted his deep roots in Karachi, noting that his father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather all lived in the city. He said his education, business headquarters, tax filings and residence were all based in Karachi, adding: “Everything I have is connected to Karachi, and my ancestors also lived here.”

Tanveer thanked the committee for its trust and offered prayers for strength to serve the business community and contribute to Pakistan’s economy. He also thanked business leaders across Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan for their support, and acknowledged Hanif Gohar for establishing the SM Muneer Auditorium.
