The Additional Inspector General of Karachi Police, Javed A. Odho, announced that approximately 470 police personnel will soon join the force, concentrating on long-term strategies for maintaining law and order in the city.
During his visit to the SITE Association of Industry, he emphasized the importance of coordination between the District Keamari and District Central administrations to address the persistent traffic congestion in the SITE area. He emphasized the importance of a respectful relationship between the police and citizens, and discussed the Safe City Project (SCP), which aims to detect fake number plates. Following its implementation, traffic challans are expected to increase significantly and be delivered to residential addresses.
Odho encouraged the business community to collaborate on transportation solutions and to participate in efforts to rehabilitate drug addicts. In response to inquiries, he discussed the SCP’s potential to identify weapons in vehicles and advised vehicle owners to enhance their safety measures.
The Additional IG also directed that a lifter be available during peak traffic hours at key locations. SITE President Ahmed Azeem Alvi acknowledged the police’s efforts and suggested creating separate roads for heavy traffic. He raised concerns regarding drug addiction in the area.
Chief Coordinator Saleem Parekh praised the conduct of the traffic police and urged for solutions to traffic disruptions. Former Chairman Tariq Yousuf called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and action against illegal displays of firearms.
Majyd Aziz suggested prioritizing the use of helmets for motorcyclists, while SVP Khalid Riaz noted the decline in crime rates, attributing it to the effectiveness of the police. Chairman of Law & Order, Abdul Hadi, reported improvements in site security and recommended more stable police postings to enhance performance, along with addressing other local issues, such as traffic jams and minor encroachments.
