DIG Police (West) Irfan Baloch has stated that under the leadership of IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon and Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, every possible effort is being made to improve the law and order situation across the city. Efforts to eradicate crime in the North Karachi industrial area will go hand-in-hand with discouraging illegal activities. He expressed these views while visiting the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), addressing businesspeople and industrialists. NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan and other members shared their views, while SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui was also present.
DIG West Irfan Baloch further stated that every effort will be made to maintain law and order in the industrial area so that factory owners and workers do not feel insecure, allowing business activities to continue without hindrance. This is why, in collaboration with NKATI, steps are being taken to eliminate any remaining crime from the North Karachi industrial area. The policing system, which is quite old, is being modernized, and advanced technology is being implemented, which will help reduce crime rates. He added that currently, there is a shortage of 1,400 to 1,500 police personnel, and IG Sindh has informed the government about this. Additionally, the training of new recruits is underway, and soon new personnel will be available.
Baloch emphasized that with mutual consultation and cooperation with NKATI, efforts to curb crime will continue to ensure a favorable environment for business. He further mentioned that removing illegal encroachments also helps reduce crime, and a comprehensive strategy will be developed to tackle encroachment.
Earlier, NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan stated that due to the lack of police personnel in the North Karachi industrial area, industrialists feel insecure, and therefore, police presence should be increased in the area. DIG Irfan Baloch is a highly experienced police officer, and we are hopeful that he will take steps to control the crime rate in industrial areas. However, our demand is for a special police squad to be assigned for the industrial area. He informed that every day, hundreds of thousands of people come to the North Karachi industrial area for business and employment, and it is our collective responsibility to provide a peaceful environment for them. In recent times, there has indeed been a reduction in crime in the NKATI area; however, street crimes remain out of control. People are being followed and robbed after withdrawing money from banks, and immediate action is necessary to address this issue. This will help build public trust in the police and reduce feelings of insecurity.
