A joint meeting of the Executive Councils of Sindh Madressatul Islam University Teachers Association (SMUTA), Officers Association (SMIUOA), and Employees Welfare Association (SMIUEWA) was held. The purpose of the meeting was to express complete solidarity with a female faculty member who has allegedly faced harassment. These views were expressed by Asif Hussain Samo, President of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Teachers Association (SMUTA), during the meeting held at Sindh Madressatul Islam University.
He stated that the leadership expressed deep concern over the media reports, which also mentioned delays in the investigation committees. All three associations unanimously emphasized that no obstacle in the path of justice would be accepted. Harassment of any woman, especially female faculty members at the university, is a sensitive and serious matter that should be resolved immediately and with due seriousness.
Abdul Waheed Jatoi, General Secretary of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Officers Association (SMIUOA), said that the meeting expressed full confidence in the rule of law at the institution and the work of the investigative committees. However, there was also a demand that the recommendations and decisions of these committees be implemented promptly. He stated that no institution can progress unless the swift provision of justice and adherence to the law is ensured. Political interference, influence, or manipulation of legal matters will lead to the institution’s downfall. The meeting strongly condemned the actions of some individuals attempting to defame the institution and mislead others. The three associations clarified that this issue should only be resolved within law and ethics. The leadership warned that wherever such behaviour has occurred—where perpetrators of harassment or corruption were protected—it has destroyed institutions.
Present on the occasion were Zeeshan Bajwa, General Secretary of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Employees Welfare Association (SMIUEWA); Mushtaq Muhammad, General Secretary of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Officers Association (SMIUOA); Wafa Mansoor Bado, General Secretary of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University Teachers Association (SMUTA); and others.
