The Aga Khan University’s Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) hosted SIMPACT 2026, the leading healthcare simulation conference in Pakistan and East Africa. This year’s theme, “Simulation Reimagined: AI & Beyond,” focused on how artificial intelligence and immersive technologies are transforming health training and patient safety.

The conference featured workshops, over 80 research presentations, keynote talks, and showcases of local innovations, including an AI-powered talking avatar for medical training and a culturally sensitive chatbot for adolescent health.

Professor Atta-ur-Rahman emphasized the need to revamp healthcare education to prepare future professionals, while Chief Guest Dr. Dabeer Ahmed Khan highlighted the essential role of simulation and AI in building a skilled healthcare workforce.

CIME’s centers in Karachi and Nairobi continue to lead advancements in health education, with Dr. Faisal Ismail noting the significance of technology and simulation in improving patient safety and care quality. The program included a keynote by Professor Thomas Thesen and discussions on AI’s future in healthcare, highlighting major developments in education, training, and practice.
