Geneva (July 4, 2025) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has secured a new three-year contract to operate Tanzania’s pre-shipment verification of conformity (PVoC) program. Effective from March 1, 2025, this agreement strengthens SGS’s continued support of the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) in safeguarding public health and safety through rigorous product conformity assessment.
Under the renewed contract, SGS will provide comprehensive services including document verification, physical inspections and laboratory testing through its global network. These measures are essential to preventing the importation of substandard goods and ensuring regulated products meet Tanzania’s quality, health and environmental standards.
In a recent update, the TBS announced that as of May 7, 2025, all regulated products arriving in Tanzania without the required certificate of conformity (CoC) will be subject to a 15% penalty based on cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value. Compliance with the PVoC program is mandatory to avoid these penalties and ensure smooth market access.
SGS’s extensive experience, technical expertise and global infrastructure continue to position it as a preferred provider of PVoC services. This renewed contract reaffirms SGS’s leadership and its role in promoting fair competition and protecting consumers and local manufacturers from low-quality imports.
