Commissioner of Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI), Miandad Rahoojo, announced new registrations of industries under SESSI in the North Karachi Industrial Area. He stated that industrialists should register their factories with SESSI and that old dues will not be collected. SESSI will demand workers’ contribution payments from the date of the worker’s registration, and the audit procedure for registered units is being changed. He further assured that industrialists will not be troubled regarding old audit cases.
While speaking with President Faisal Moiz Khan and other members of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) yesterday, Miandad Rahoojo said that a facilitation desk would be set up at NKATI for effective communication between SESSI and industrialists in North Karachi, where a SESSI representative will be available at all times.
At the occasion, SESSI Regional Director, Senior Vice President of NKATI Shabeer Ismail, Vice President Naeem Haider, and other senior members were present. Miandad Rahoojo emphasized that 70% of SESSI’s budget is spent on providing healthcare services to registered workers. He mentioned that are 4,400 employees managing the services, and despite not having the best services, the beds in their hospitals are always fully occupied. He stated that SESSI will collaborate with NKATI to upgrade the NKATI Welfare Hospital using all available resources.
Miandad Rahoojo also mentioned that registered units will be allowed to arbitrate at the Association’s office before a notice under section 81 is issued. If the issue is not resolved at the facilitation desk, a notice will be issued. He added that action will be taken against officers who conduct visits twice a year.
Additionally, he stated that SESSI’s dispensaries will be upgraded so that the working class can benefit from modern healthcare facilities. He also mentioned that SESSI is working on establishing model operation theatres in its hospitals and has signed agreements with Jinnah Sindh Medical University and Dow University for laboratory tests in Karachi.
President of NKATI, Faisal Moiz Khan, welcomed the SESSI Commissioner and assured him of full cooperation from the Association. Faisal Moiz Khan said, “We register our workers with SESSI to access better healthcare and treatment facilities, but modern medical services are unavailable in SESSI hospitals. Also, industrial workers have not received the Benazir Mazdoor Card.” He further emphasized that industrial workers should have access to all major hospitals in the city through the insurance cards provided by SESSI. He concluded by stating that SESSI’s contributions are collected for the benefit of workers, and no registered employers should be intimidated into making these payments.
