PPL announces gas discovery from Dolphin X-1 Well in Sirani License, Sindh

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), the operator of the Sirani Exploration License with a 75% Working Interest (WI), alongside its Joint Venture Partner, Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with 25% WI, has made a significant gas discovery at the Dolphin X-1 well in Sujawal District, Sindh Province.

Drilled to a measured depth of 3,850 meters, the well was intended to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation. Post-acid testing revealed high-quality gas with a heating value of approximately 1,000 Btu/scf, flowing at 0.942 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMscfd) under a Wellhead Flowing Pressure of 211 psig with a 32/64″ choke.

During pre-acid testing, condensate was initially produced at 94 Barrels per Day (BPD), which decreased to 46 BPD within 24 hours. Although no condensate was observed during post-acid testing, the initial results indicate promising hydrocarbon potential in the Chiltan Formation, warranting further exploration.

This discovery confirms the presence of a petroleum system and opens new exploration opportunities in the onshore marshy area and possibly into shallow offshore regions.
