Syed Aman Shah, the Provincial Convener of Awaam Pakistan Party Balochistan, has termed the continuous increase in petroleum product prices as the worst form of exploitation against the public. He said the burden of the government’s flawed policies is being placed directly on ordinary citizens.
He stated that the consistent rise in the prices of petrol, diesel and other fuels has not only increased transportation fares but has also caused the prices of food items and other essential goods to skyrocket. According to him, an increase in petroleum prices actually triggers a new wave of inflation, the harshest impact of which falls on daily wage labourers, government and private employees, and low-income groups.
He added that people are already distressed by rising electricity, gas, and daily commodity prices, and the continuous increase in fuel prices is like adding fuel to the fire. Syed Aman Shah said that instead of providing relief, the government is imposing new burdens on the public every day.
He demanded an immediate reduction in heavy taxes and levies imposed on petroleum products so that some relief could be provided to the people. He further said that even when global market prices decline, the benefit is not passed on to the public, which is highly regrettable.
He emphasised that inflation has made life miserable for the common man. The increase in transport fares is severely affecting students, patients, and daily commuters. Business activity is slowing, and unemployment is also rising.
The provincial convener warned that if the continuous increase in petroleum prices is not stopped and immediate relief is not provided to the public, Awaam Pakistan Party Balochistan, along with the people, will be compelled to launch a protest movement. He stated that every constitutional and democratic means will be adopted to protect public rights, and the government must refrain from anti-people decisions.
