The Pakistan Chemicals & Dyes Merchants Association (PCDMA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for the tax period ending September 30, 2026, by one month, citing persistent malfunctioning and instability of the IRIS portal.

In a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial, PCDMA Chairman Salim Valimuhammad said tax practitioners and taxpayers faced serious difficulties transmitting their Income Tax Returns within the stipulated deadline due to ongoing technical problems with the IRIS portal.

He said the issue had been repeatedly brought to the PRAL team’s attention through individual complaints and collective representations. However, the portal had reportedly remained dysfunctional and unstable for more than a week, making it difficult for tax practitioners to complete their statutory obligations on time.

“Despite repeated requests for remedial measures, the issues remain unresolved, resulting in considerable hardship for the tax fraternity,” Valimuhammad said.

The PCDMA chairman therefore requested the FBR chairman to extend the due date for filing Income Tax Returns for the tax period ending September 30, 2026, to October 30, 2026, in the interest of justice and to help taxpayers and tax practitioners fulfil their statutory obligations without undue hardship.

Valimuhammad appreciated the FBR’s attention to the matter and hoped the FBR would grant the requested extension to provide relief to the tax fraternity.
