Pakistan’s oil and gas exploration sector posted a mixed performance in April 2026, with two hydrocarbon discoveries offset by two dry wells. According to Topline Pakistan Research, Mari Petroleum reported success at Mari 127H, while Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDC) struck hydrocarbons at Kunar WIW. However, OGDC also faced setbacks as Saidpur‑1 and Chak203 wells were declared dry.
Production trends remained positive, with crude oil output rising 8 percent month‑on‑month and natural gas production climbing 12 percent. Analysts attributed the surge to increased reliance on domestic supplies following disruptions in re‑gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) imports.
Exploration activity accelerated sharply, with drilling of exploratory wells up 109 percent compared to March. Seismic efforts also expanded, with 2D seismic acquisition increasing 1 percent and 3D seismic acquisition rising 7 percent. The uptick reflects renewed momentum in upstream exploration as companies intensify efforts to expand reserves.
