Pakistan Freelancers earn over $950 million in 10 months despite multiple challenges: PAFLA

Pakistani freelancers have made a significant impact on the economy, earning over $950 million in foreign exchange during the first 10 months of the fiscal year and outperforming freelancers from various countries. The State Bank of Pakistan reported a 49% year-on-year growth in export receipts from freelancing in computer and information services, reaching $959 million for the period July to April.

Dr. Imran Batada, President and CEO of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, attributed this growth to increased participation on platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr, as well as heightened awareness and skill development through various educational initiatives. With an estimated 3 million freelancers in Pakistan, Dr. Batada emphasized the need for ongoing skill upgrades, particularly in AI and soft skills, to remain competitive globally.

PAFLA is rolling out strategies for workshops to enhance knowledge in freelancing trends and business development. Pakistan is on the verge of surpassing $1 billion in freelancer-generated export receipts, aided by collaboration among government and industry stakeholders.
