Pakistan Car sales in Pakistan (as reported by PAMA) clocked in at 17,010 units in Jan 2025, reflecting a 61% YoY and a 73% MoM rise. This includes Sazgar Engineering Works (SAZEW)’s Dec 24 and Jan 25 sales, as last month’s numbers were not released.
§ MoM increase is primarily due to the low base effect, as December sales are typically low, with buyers delaying purchases for new-year registrations and SAZEW data not being released, leading to an uptick in January.
§ The YoY rise in car sales is driven by lowered interest rates, improved consumer confidence, and the introduction of newer variants and models.
§ This takes 7MFY25 sales to 77,686 units, a 55% YoY rise from 49,989 units in 7MFY24.
§ Company wise: All companies has seen both MoM and YoY rise.
§ SAZEW has seen a 2.75x rise in sales from 2,253 units in 7MFY24 to 6,201 units in 7MFY25.
§ Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) saw two-month 81% YoY rise and 37% MoM rise, mainly driven by Alto sales which marked a 2-year high (last recorded in Dec 2022).
§ Indus Motor Company (INDU) saw a 21% YoY and 2x MoM increase, primarily driven by higher sales in the Fortuner & IMV segments. According to an auto journal, Toyota Hilux sales surged to 931 units, a 2-year high, significantly contributing to this rise for INDU.
§ Honda Atlas Cars (HCAR) saw 65% YoY while 99% MoM rise and Hyundai Nishat saw a 25% YoY and 14% MoM rise in car sales.
§ 2 and 3-wheelers sales increased by 33% YoY and 18% MoM, totaling 139,161 units (~2.5 year high) in Jan 2025. This includes two-month sales for SAZEW.
§ The tractor industry recorded sales of 2,761 units, marking a 28% YoY and 61% MoM decrease.
§ Truck and bus sales in Jan 2025 were up 2.57x YoY and 3.22x MoM, reaching 621 units after 3 years (last recorded in Jan 2022).
§ Auto sales have seen a boost, which is expected to continue as auto financing recovers amidst interest rates fall and new variants enter the market.
