Pakistan can become a regional EV manufacturing hub: BYD VP

Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co., Ltd. and General Manager of BYD’s Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, said Pakistan could become a regional manufacturing and export base for new energy vehicles (NEVs).

In an interview with Business Recorder, Liu underscored BYD’s innovation and sustainability philosophy, noting the company’s expansion into 26 Asia Pacific markets. He said Pakistan’s reliance on imported oil and growing adoption of solar energy make the shift to NEVs both “necessary and achievable.”

BYD entered Pakistan in 2024 and has already delivered over 10,000 vehicles. Liu confirmed that BYD, in partnership with Mega Motor Company, is setting up a local assembly plant with an initial capacity of 25,000 units per year, scalable to 50,000. The facility, expected to launch in late 2026, will create more than 1,100 jobs and help avoid 165,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2034.

He also highlighted BYD’s next‑generation ultra‑fast charging technology, powered by the Blade Battery, which could eventually be introduced in Pakistan depending on infrastructure readiness. “Our long‑term vision is to support Pakistan’s green economy and build it into a regional NEV manufacturing and export base,” Liu said.

Liu added that BYD sees itself not just as a carmaker but as a technology company, committed to continuous innovation and delivering products that meet diverse customer needs.
