The federal budget for 2026-27 has delivered a historic relief package for Pakistan’s shipping industry. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, the 18 percent sales tax previously imposed on the sector has been completely abolished.
Minister Chaudhry stated that the removal of this tax will stimulate growth in the maritime and logistics sectors, significantly reduce business costs, and accelerate trade and cargo operations. He emphasized that local shipping companies will gain stronger competitiveness, while new investment opportunities are expected to emerge.
According to him, eliminating sales tax will lower import and export costs, marking a major step toward stabilizing the maritime economy. The expansion of the local shipping industry is also projected to generate new employment opportunities.
