A historic agreement was signed between the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) and the United Insurance Company of Pakistan (UIC) to provide financial security for overseas Pakistanis and their families. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s vision of good governance and public service.
The ceremony in Islamabad included OPF Managing Director Muhammad Afzal Bhatti and UIC Chief Executive Mian Muhammad Akram Shahid, who emphasized that the low-cost insurance plan is tailored to the needs of overseas Pakistanis, initially focusing on those in Gulf countries. It covers life, health, and emergency repatriation costs.
Labor unions welcomed the initiative, proposing a monitoring mechanism for transparency. Over 10 million Pakistanis work abroad, sending over $38 billion in remittances annually. This program aims to enhance their welfare while bolstering Pakistan’s economy.
