Sukhdev Hemnani, spokesperson for the Sindh Government, emphasized the importance of minority rights as fundamental to equal citizenship during National Minorities Day. He highlighted the Sindh Government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of religious minorities through progressive legislation, political representation, and welfare measures.

Hemnani noted the significance of declaring August 11 as National Minorities Day, aligning with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision of equality. Under President Asif Ali Zardari’s leadership, historic measures were introduced, such as a dedicated Ministry for Minority Affairs, a 5% employment quota, and increased political representation for minorities.

He outlined key legislative milestones, including the Sindh Protection of Communal Properties of Minorities Act and the Sindh Hindu Marriage Act, and emphasized the inclusion of minorities in government decision-making and security during religious occasions. The Sindh Government supports minorities through scholarships, financial aid, and welfare programs.

Hemnani reaffirmed Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s commitment to an inclusive Pakistan where all citizens share equal rights. He urged that National Minorities Day is a reminder of the need for a progressive society where everyone can live with dignity and opportunity.
