Minister of Railways meets Chairman KPT

The Federal Minister for Railways, Mr. Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, visited the KPT Head Office on 8th January 2026 and chaired a meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest. He was received by Chairman KPT, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed SI (M) S.Bt (Retd).

The meeting focused on the latest developmental projects undertaken by Pakistan Railways (PR) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in their respective domains, the resolution of pending issues, the establishment of multimodal passenger/ zaireens movement integrating Ferry service, and the strengthening of Pakistan Railway’s infrastructure associated with Karachi Port to support future cargo operations.

Furthermore, Chairman KPT requested the Honourable Minister to further enhance the PR capacity to carry more cargo from KPT. The honourable Minister mentioned that concerted efforts are in hand and in sha Allah, within 5 months, PR will facilitate exponential cargo handling from Karachi Port. In this regard, 4 rails on daily basis are being planned from KPT area.

The KPT team also highlighted that assured business for heavy cargo, including Steel Coils transportation and Rock Phosphate, must also be exploited by PR in the best interests of both organizations and the business community.

Both sides agreed to optimize the utilization of Pakistan Railway’s resources to enhance efficiency and reduce logistics costs. The Chairman of KPT assured the Minister that all support and facilitation will be extended to PR local authorities to realize the Minister’s vision for future expansion.
