K-Electric continued its crackdown on electricity theft to bring down distribution loss by removing over 120 illegally hooked connections (kundas) that weighed nearly 1,900 kilogrammes in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. The crackdown particularly focused on the regions around Pink Residency and Rashdi Goth, where an illegal network of cables was removed. Cooperation from relevant authorities and law enforcement enabled the drive targeting the network of wires responsible for the loss of nearly 400,000 units of electricity per year, amounting to theft of over PKR17 million.

The high-loss feeders are a small part of KE’s wider Jauhar network, where 47 of 61 remain loadshed-free.

To support regularisation and recovery alongside enforcement, KE has also held multiple customer facilitation camps in the Jauhar area, enabling consumers to clear overdue bills, enter installment plans, and apply for legal meter-based connections.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said: “This kunda removal drive was a focused intervention to protect the integrity of KE’s network and ensure losses do not pile up. By removing nearly two tons of illegal wiring and offering customers a pathway to regularisation through facilitation camps, we are not only reducing energy losses but also helping restore fairness for paying customers. Our teams will continue targeted operations to address theft and non-payment that put the system and honest consumers at risk. We want to thank the CAA and ASF for their cooperation, as this kunda removal drive was close to the airport area as well.”

K-Electric is committed to improving recoveries and facilitating the transition from illegal to legal connections. Reducing electricity theft and ensuring timely bill payments directly support improved recovery and loss reduction across the system, key factors in minimizing load-shedding and enabling a reliable power supply.
