Lockdown not affordable, United Business Group leaders appeal to Chief Minister Sindh

Zubair Tufail President, Zafar Bakhtawari, Secretary-General, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig Secretary Information, other leaders and members of UBG on Executive Committee of FPCCI 2021 have sharply reacted to the Sindh Government decision to imposing a weeklong lockdown in Karachi, which is a commercial and economic hub of Pakistan. They said lockdown would severely affect the poor population of metropolis where hundreds of thousands of families depended on daily wages and small businesses.

They further said that a weeklong lockdown would hurt Karachi economic health and ultimately affect the entire national economy.

They appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh to withdraw the decision of lockdown. They suggested imposing a smart lockdown rather than closing down the entire city so that the people of the poor section of the society may not face hardship. Otherwise, it will severely harm economic activities.

To overcome the problematic situation of COVID, they suggested increasing the number of Corona vaccination centres. Due to inadequate arrangement, scores of people gather outside vaccination centres in blatant violation of the SOPs for Corona, they said. Also, they increased the paramedical staff to inject Coronavirus vaccine to workers at their workplaces and ordinary people at their homes.

Pakistan’s export will also badly suffer from this lockdown as the export orders will be cancelled by the foreign buyers, which is hardly affordable.
