Local manufacturing/assembly of mobile phones up 5% MoM in Dec 2025

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local mobile phone companies manufactured and assembled 2.61 million units in December 2025. This represents a 12% year-over-year decrease from 2.95 million units in December 2024. This was disclosed in a latest report of Topline Pakistan Research.

– Cumulatively, local manufacturing and assembly reached 30.21 million units in 2025, which is a 4% decline year-over-year.

– The overall decrease in manufacturing is primarily due to subdued consumer demand, as replacement cycles have extended globally to about 40 months.

– Of the 30.21 million units produced in 2025, 52% (15.64 million units) were smartphones, while the remaining 48% (14.57 million units) were 2G phones.

– In 2025, Pakistan met 93% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly. This is significantly higher than the 5-year average (2020-2024) of 77% and the 9-year average (2016-2024) of 52%.

– The top 10 locally assembled brands in 2025 included: Infinix (3.65 million units), VGO Tel (3.57 million units), Vivo (2.80 million units), Itel (2.34 million units), Samsung (1.85 million units), Tecno (1.84 million units), Xiaomi (1.38 million units), Q Mobile (1.11 million units), Realme (1.06 million units), and OPPO (1.01 million units).

– **Outlook**: Looking ahead, we expect mobile phone sales to grow by 7-8% year-over-year over the next 12 months. This growth is anticipated to be supported by a stable Pakistani Rupee (PKR), easing inflation, and improving consumer purchasing power.

– Among the listed companies, Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) and Lucky Cement (LUCK) are expected to benefit from this rising demand, as their locally assembled brands, such as Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung, rank among the top 10 in Pakistan.
