Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim Authority (PQA) have announced a series of measures to ease port congestion and improve cargo movement, including introducing night-time cargo inspections and increasing advance Goods Declaration (GD) filing.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ seminar titled “From Congestion to Connectivity,” KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed and PQA Chairman Rear Admiral Syed Moazzam Ilyas said a joint committee would be revived to address traffic and logistics issues affecting port operations.
The KPT chairman said work was underway on a proposed 1,000-acre marshalling yard, while key connectivity projects, including the Pipri Corridor, M-10, Northern Bypass and ML-1, would help improve cargo flow. He urged importers to file GDs in advance to speed up customs clearance and reduce delays.
Transporters highlighted issues such as congestion, parking shortages, and road constraints, while offering weekend services at no extra charge. KPT assured stakeholders it would implement coordinated, practical solutions to improve port efficiency and facilitate trade.
