Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has signed a designed engineering consultancy agreement for the reconstruction of Oil Pier-1 (OP-1) with M/s Inros Lackner (Germany) and Techno Consult (JV). It will upgrade the existing OP-1 facility to handle 100,000 Dead Weight Tonnage (DWT) tankers at Karachi Port. The reconstructed facility of OP-1 will be able to handle all types of liquid cargoes at the port. Consultants will prepare design, estimates and tender document under the agreement signed in KPT Head Office.

Karachi Port has three oil piers at present. The OP-1 has outlived its life of 40 years since its construction in 1978. Presently, the oil pier has the capacity to handle 8 million tons per annum liquid cargo from 75,000 DWT vessels.
