A high-level, 35-member delegation of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) led by Chairman KCCI Zubair Motiwala and President KCCI M. Javed Bilwani visited Karachi Port Trust (KPT) on the invitation of the KPT Board of Trustees/KPT Transition Management Committee (TMC) with a strategic aim of boosting national trade. The meeting was chaired by KPT TMC members Abdullah Zaki and Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, which was well attended by senior management officers of KPT, as well as the delegates.
A briefing on the facilities available at KPT was given in connection with the Export Finance Scheme initiative of KCCI. Thereafter, avenues for boosting national trade through efficient port operations and infrastructure development initiatives pursued by KPT came under discussion during the meeting. The KCCI Delegation also shared some valuable insights for further improving port logistics, while identifying procedural bottlenecks to create a business-friendly environment.
Both the KPT and KCCI demonstrated a commitment to working jointly with a positive demeanour for streamlining trade operations, as well as attracting investments in the business and maritime sectors of Pakistan. The focus remained on evolving policies that benefit the commercial and trade sectors, should the port strive to become a regional hub as envisioned by the government.
The TMC, as well as the senior management officers of KPT, appreciated the initiatives taken by KCCI as the voice of the trade community in strengthening national trade. They concluded by noting the need to jointly explore avenues of engagement and collaboration to augment national trade further.
